Bolton Babes Bushcraft Course

Daily Schedule

Check in on Sunday will be at 2pm at Ralph’s Rec Center, you will then have some time to set up camp, instructor assistance will be available as needed. We will take a quick walking tour of the resort, and then head back to camp for dinner over the campfire.

We will start each morning with a yoga session before breakfast; an egg scramble with bacon and veggies. Monday’s focus will be learning how to use and care for our most handy tool, the knife. A knife will be provided for each participant to use throughout the duration of the course and take home with you at the end. We will also introduce fire skills, plant identification and field pressing. You will have a couple of hours to get some mountain bike runs in before dinner is served over the campfire.

On Tuesday we will start with some yoga before breakfast, and continue to develop our fire making skills through the creation and use of a bow drill kit. Tool care is a continued topic, we will be making leather sheathes with belt loops for our knives. We will also identify and press a couple more plants. You will have a couple of hours to get some mountain bike runs in or play in the rec center before dinner is served over the campfire.

Wednesday morning we will wake up with a yoga session, breakfast, and then begin working on making a wooden spoon using our campfire coals to burn out the bowl of the spoon, and carving the handle with our knife. We will add a couple new plants to our list, and then introduce another fire making tactic; flint and steel. An intro to basket weaving will finish off the day. You will have a couple of hours to get some mountain bike runs in or play in the rec center before dinner is served over the campfire.

Thursday morning begins with a yoga flow and some breakfast. Fire is the most important survival skill in your arsenal, so we will have more dedicated time to practice fire making skills. We will identify a couple more plants, make a net bag to carry water bottles in and continue to work on spoon carving and basketry. You will have a couple of hours to get some mountain bike runs in or play in the rec center before dinner is served over the campfire.

Our final day together will, you guessed it, start with yoga and then breakfast. We will have plenty of time to finish up all of our projects on Friday; knife sheaths, wooden spoons, hand weaved baskets, water bottle net bags, and turning all of our pressed plants in to a booklet. We will put our fire making skills to the test with a friendly fire competition, and then close with a meditation to bring our experience together full circle. You will have a couple of hours to play in the rec center or get some mountain bike runs in before our final dinner together is served over the campfire.
